Another bad hair year...

Jack's hair is out of control. It is thick and long and unruly. And he has tonsurephobia...a serious phobia of haircuts.

Back in December, I theorized that when Jack's hair grew long enough to cover his eyes, he'd probably get bothered enough and ask for a cut. I was wrong. And then some.

This is Jack's hair (and maybe if you are lucky you can catch a glimpse of Jack under there):

As a way of coping with his ever lengthening hair, Jack has started to tilt his head to the side so that his hair naturally parts. I fear he's going to end up with a crook in his neck.

(And for the record...no, I do not dye his hair. I have actually had people ask me...maybe it an "only in California" thing? If the child won't let us cut it, he certainly won't let us dye it!)

The other day when he was in the bath I took a picture of him with his hair all slicked back. I miss his face...
He looks like a different kid!

  1. To be honest I love his hair. But I do understand you missing his beautiful, uhum, I mean handsome face. When I was younger and had naturally highlighted hair my mother was asked the same thing and we lived in the south, so I don't think it's just a Cal. thing. Good luck with getting his hair cut.

  3. I've always thought that he looks so beautiful with the longish hair... besides, every time I look at a picture of him, I'm immediately drawn to his eyes. I can try to focus on something else, but his eyes draw me in. He is SO beautiful, yes, he's a boy, and he's beautiful!! I say let it grow, many boys have long hair, and I think that's totally ok... provided he's happy, healthy, and it doesn't bother him, oh well!

If you really do want him to get it trimmed, even if he wants to keep some length to it, there are ways to help him there little by little. We had to do that with Jillian, but for hair brushing issues. It took Jillian 7 years to learn to cope with brushing her hair... it wasn't a fear thing for her, it was a severe sensory thing. The best we could do was wash and condition it when she'd allow us to, and it would dry beautifully without brushing it. By the end of that day, it was a mess, and it would be days before she'd allow us to wash it again, days without it being brushed or even touched. She'd flip when we'd go near it. The difference? For as beautiful as she and Jack both are, she looked like h*ll with her hair a constant mess. At least Jack looks great regardless, LOL!

Anyway, if you want some tips, let me know. Otherwise, enjoy, he's wonderful just the way he is! And those eyes......... oh my word!

Can't wait to meet you guys (no date yet, still waiting...)

  4. P.S. (as though my first comment wasn't long enough, ROTF)... Josh envies Jack. Josh's hair grows curly and unruly, and he can't get it to grow long, and wishes he could.

  5. Awwww. He looks so cute with the long hair. I just had to cut my little one's hair since everyone was telling us what a beautiful little girl we had.

    Stopping by from SITS.

  7. Ok {call me a dork, but}, I've always wondered the same thing about his hair, the different colors. That's awesome that it's just naturally like that, I love it! I also love his long hair, my middle son likes his hair long and hates to have it cut. We managed to tackle him and do it last fall but it's really growing out again. It is nice to cut it and see their cute little faces for a change though!

  9. OH, yes, how can he hide those beautiful blue eyes?! But, he does have great hair. Alex always gets his buzzed, like Daddy, and I sometimes miss his longer blonde locks :) He's gotten so used to barely having hair, that when it even grows a tiny bit, he says "I need a hair cut!"

  10. That is so funny you would post about his hair because I wanted to tell you that I think his hair looks so cool! I wouldn't even cut it. Maybe a trim, but that's it! There's only a few boys that could pull that hairstyle off!! He totally looks like a Californian w/ his blonde streaks too! I love it!!!!!

  11. This reminds me of seeing teenagers with hair in their face and they actually always have hold their heads at an angle to keep the hair off their face. Wouldn't they get a crick in their necks?

  13. I agree his face is too cute to be covered BUT you know the hair he's rocking people are paying a lot of money for. LOL!

  14. I think he looks very "California." You know, he's sporting the newest boys trend. Haven't you watched Hanna Montana lately?

  16. those eyes!! girl your in trouble!!

My oldest went through his long hair thing for about 2 years. Now when he sees the pictures he's like mom why did you let me do that!!

When their young its hard because you don't want to pin them down for a haircut. Just let it be it's not hurting anyone and he has really good hair :)

  17. I hear ya. Lexie's NEVER had a hair cut and she will be 5 soon. Luckily, it's not so uncommon for girls to have long hair-since it is now way past her bottom. She also won't let me put it up and seldom lets me put a barrette in it so that I can pull it out of her face. I feel your pain. I love to see her beautiful face, too.

  18. He has a style all his own. Stopping by from SITS.

  19. Tonsurephobia, eh? So that's the poltically correct term? Wow, never knew it. I tell you what, my Logan is the same exact way. He dispises hair cuts with a passion. I usually end up having to give him the dreaded buzz cut cause I try to get it cut ASAP. No time for styling when he screams his head off. Poor boys.

I love Jack's hair. A style all his own. But you are so right, looks like a totally different boy with it slicked back. It makes his eyes pop even more so. Yeah, those eyes... GORGEOUS!

Yeah! I love comments! Feel free to leave me one (or two or three).
But remember what your mama said..."If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
Thanks!
